{Illustration facing title page (Frontispiece) described:
This is a photograph, full frontal head and part shoulders to upper chest of Crowley. He is bald, stares firmly forward and his mouth is a closed straight line. He wears a loose bow-tie of speckled design on a white shirt with stiff collar. A vest is barely discernible in the photo. Over this he wears what appears to be a heavy tweed coat, sloping high over his shoulders to the level of the base his ears in back. This is open in the front and may in fact be simply draped. The eleven-fold cross of Baphomet is inked in lower left of the photo and "Crowley" is signed from there across the bottom, slightly asymmetrically toward the left. Below the photo's right corner is "Frontispiece" in small italics.}
